Darion Pohl (Director)
Darion's involvement in the emigration finance industry has included:
- Media appearances as the specialist on finance for emigrants (including on the BBC);
- Being invited to give key note presentations on financial issues for emigrants (including at the Australian high Commission);
- Writing numerous emigration based editorials for the press.
Prior to joining Prism Xpat, Darion has been employed in large globally focused financial companies such as William Mercer, ANZ Investment Bank, JB Were Goldman Sachs and Deloittes.
Darion's Australian based experience has included:
- Working to analyse Australia's listed banking stocks and report its findings to the world’s largest fund managers. In his time there, the team Darion was in part of a team which achieved a consistent Australian ranking within the top three in its field.
- Consulting in an Actuarial capacity to a number of Australia’s largest superannuation funds to assist with the design of these funds as well as advising pension scheme trustees on how to act.
- Working as part of the Actuarial team advising on the demutualisation of National Mutual in Australia.
Darion’s UK based experience has included:
- Heading the mortgage endowment review for one the UK’s largest insurance companies;
- Undertaking loss calculations for investors as part of the UK pension mis-selling review (to work out how much investors had actually lost by being mis-sold pensions). In dealing with many pension schemes, Darion gained a strong understanding of the mechanics of the intricacies of many pension schemes and the related administration behind them.
Darion is a key member of Prism Xpat. His Australian and skills and experience are core components behind the team’s multinational financial consulting, pension and advisory services.
The Actuarial qualification is rare to obtain and difficult to complete (an estimated average of close to 7 years). In his year, Darion was one of only 5 in his state, from 80 enrolled to become fully qualified. Jim, his co-director was one of the other 5.
Darion holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne, is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, an Affiliate of the Institute of Actuaries of the UK, an Associate of the Securities Institute of Australia (required to give financial advice in Australia), fully qualified UK financial adviser holding the Financial Planning Certificate and holds the UK's ‘G60’ qualification (required by law to give advice on UK pension transfers). The level of the Actuarial profession which Darion has obtained is also recognized in New Zealand.
Darion’s main interests (apart from spending time with his British wife) include sport, travel and music.
